April 2, 2015 — The Off Broad Street Players (OBSP) presented a $500 donation on Monday to the Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV) program of the Center for Family Services, the domestic violence service provider for Cumberland and Gloucester Counties.

The donation was the result of a portion of proceeds of the sales of regularly priced tickets to OBSP’s production of Carousel, which ran at the Levoy Theatre for two weekends in February.

“We are extremely pleased that we were able to turn our audiences’ support of our organization into additional funds for the invaluable services provided by the people of SERV,” said Derek Davis, vice president of the OBSP board of trustees, who presented the donation to SERV staff members. “Our partnership with SERV truly opened our eyes to the scope of the issue of domestic violence, and our audiences responded to our call for increased awareness and support of those on the front lines in the effort to aid the victims. All of us at OBSP commend the staff at SERV for their tireless dedication to those victims and hope others in our community will join us in supporting the SERV program.”

SERV offers confidential and free 24/7 services 365 days a year, including counseling, education, and outreach. The non-profit also provides personnel to accompany victims to hospitals, police departments, and court appointments, as well as emergency safe housing for victims of domestic violence.

According to SERV, more than one in three women and more than one in four men in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetimes. For more information on SERV, visit
