Into the Woods

Discover your happily ever after.

In Sondheim & Lapine’s delightfully fractured fairy tale musical, a Baker and his Wife embark into the woods on a quest to reverse a curse laid on them by the Witch next door.  Along the way they encounter an ambivalent Cinderella, an aggressive Red Riding Hood, a rebellious Rapunzel, a too-trusting Jack, and a couple of not-so-princely Princes. But when everyone’s wishes are granted, the consequences of their self-centered actions come to haunt them.   Eventually they learn a moving life lesson about working together, the stories we tell our children, and the real meaning of “happily ever after.”

Beloved Board Member Janet H. Christy Passed Away on March 9th

Posted by on Mar 10, 2018 in Announcements | No Comments

It is with a heavy heart and the utmost sadness that the Off Broad Street Players announce the passing of Board Member and Treasurer, Janet H. Christy.

Regularly referred to as ‘Grandmom’ or ‘Gmom’, Janet was the matriarch of the OBSP Family. She always made it a point to connect with every new member and patron that took part in, or came to watch, OBSP productions.

Having been a member of the organization for over 15 years, Janet served a majority of that time as the organization’s Treasurer on the Board of Directors.

Janet recently received the Lifetime Membership Award at the 2016 Season Wally Awards.

Our organization is what it is today partially because of Janet and the effect she had on all of us.

We will forever miss and love the light and energy she brought to this family.

We ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts in this time of grief.

Information on services will be posted at a later date.

We thank you for your love and support.

RIP Janet H. Christy

OBSP to receive grant funding from Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission

Off Broad Street Players Awarded $8,750 Grant

Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission

Millville, NJ – January 22nd, 2018

The Off Broad Street Players Board of Directors are thrilled to announce that OBSP has been awarded 2018 grant funding from the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission totaling $8,750!

Funding for the grant is made possible by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

The award for the 2018 calendar year marks the highest grant award received in OBSP’s twenty year history.

When asked for comment on the received funding, Artistic Director and OBSP Founder, Walter A. Webster, stated, “with the help of the Commission, we are beyond excited to continue our commitment to producing great community theatre as well as broadening our educational mission for both children and adults throughout South Jersey and beyond”.

OBSP’s mission focuses on promoting the study of Musical Theatre and plays. The organization also serves to promote and provide the public with an opportunity to have a quality, community theatre at affordable prices through the efforts of individuals in Southern New Jersey and the surrounding area who display an interest in theatre productions.

OBSP President Robin Wood reiterated Mr. Webster’s comments noting “OBSP is honored to receive the Cumberland County Cultural Heritage Grant. The funding allows us to continue to expand on our community outreach through our performances. We are blessed to be the resident theatre company in the beautiful and historic Levoy Theatre. We have grown each year through our partnership with the Levoy. Thank you to the Cumberland County Cultural Heritage Commission”.

The arts re-grant from the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission focuses on supporting organizations within Cumberland County that offer a high level of quality programming with anticipated value to the community.

The Grants Review Panel cited OBSP’s ‘great productions, exploring new topics [including] LGBTQ inclusion, and creating a long bench of excellent volunteers.’ The panel was also impressed not only by the organization’s production/acting skills, but the organizations value in training people in non-profit management.

OBSP’s next theatrical production Oklahoma! runs February 9th through the 18th at the beautiful Levoy Theatre in Millville, NJ. Tickets are on sale now at www.levoy.net or by calling the box office at (856)327-6400.
