Matthew J. Mixner Memorial Scholarship

The Off Broad Street Players Performing Arts Scholarship is a scholarship near and dear to the members of Off Broad Street Players. The history behind the scholarship, its significance, and why we offer it are expounded upon below.

The Off Broad Street Players Performing Arts Scholarship better known as The Matthew J. Mixner Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented by the Off Broad Street Players each year to an OBSP high school senior who plans to further their education in the performing arts, including not only drama and theatre, but production, music and all other aspects of the performing arts.

This scholarship is offered in memory of OBSP member, Matt Mixner who touched the lives of each and every individual that he met. His enthusiasm for all aspects of theatre, music, stage direction, and production are all an inspiration.

Applications for interested seniors are available by emailing OBSP Vice President, Kimberly Hitchner, at khitchner@obsp.org. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of completed application, letters of reference, a high school transcript, and an interview before the OBSP Scholarship selection committee. Applications may be made from mid- February through mid-May. Applications are due May 15th.

2020 Scholarship Winner

Lindsay Nakai is a 2020 graduate of Gloucester County Institute of Technology (GCIT) from their Performing Arts Academy. She will be attending Drexel University, majoring in Dance and Pre-Physical Therapy. Lindsay plans to earn a doctorate in Physical Therapy and wishes to work with dancers in recovery from performance injuries.

Lindsay has been a regular in OBSP productions including Mamma Mia!, Beauty and the Beast, Oklahoma!, and many more! We wish Lindsay best wishes and are so proud of this young performer.

The Off Broad Street Players Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the winner of the Matthew J. Mixner Scholarship is Lindsay Nakai. Ammi Post and Amanda Ellis will also receive an award as semifinalists.

These students were selected based upon the desire to obtain a higher education in the arts, leadership, work and community service, goals and aspirations.  Even in these days of remote learning, students still need financial support and encouragement. So, OBSP is happy to be able to help students pursue their dream of higher education in the arts.
